Ambrose tours The Image Group

Ambrose: a Holland-based design and screen-printing studio that not only manufactures premium quality clothing with custom designs, but also mentors local students to produce creative work for the benefit of others, will be touring the The Image Group this Thursday.

Ambrose takes place every Thursday afternoon during the regular school year where local students gather at the Holland Area Arts Council. What does a normal Ambrose gathering look like? “Every week is different,” says founder Adam Weiler. While at The Image Group, the students will tour the space and view portfolio pieces. They’ll also learn about project management, the different roles within the agency, and discuss what it means for communication to impact culture – worldwide.

Weiler explains “These youth are discussing personal and generational issues while developing creative projects on a weekly basis.” Topics covered while the students brainstorm are meant to challenge them to think critically about the world around them. The students encounter “compassion, love, self expression, and acceptance,” says Weiler, and it’s compassion and moral discovery that Ambrose hopes to elucidate to its youth through the medium of art.

Nic Phent, a Senior at West Ottawa High School, says that even though he wants to study music after school, the lessons learned in these cooperative artistic undertakings will allow him to think critically about the creative process. “When we all collaborated to paint an art mural for a local business,” said Phent, “it was like the visual form of jamming with a band. You begin to feel the rhythm and everything just comes together.”

Ultimately, Weiler says the experience at Ambrose will allow these students to pursue their own creative passions. By exposing them to technical, business, money management, and communication skills, Weiler hopes the students will succeed no matter what they choose to do.
